We asked a few of our customers to share some of their cringiest past experiences with Halloween costumes ordered from other sellers and hilarious Halloween hiccups
Size does matter!
A few years ago, I didn’t read the size chart properly (at all in fact) and I ordered what I thought was a women’s adult small witch Halloween costume. What arrived was an outfit for a young girl! It was too late for me to return it and I desperately needed a costume for our annual Halloween work bash that same night. I managed to squeeze (most of myself) into it and figured I’d tell people that I was a witch who’d shrunk her own costume because she was terrible with spells. It was all ok until I leant over the snack table to grab a plate and the front of my dress ripped right down the bodice. A few people got a lot more than just an eye of calamari. It was mortifying! I had to wear my jacket for the rest of the night. My colleagues called me stripper witch for years after that. I now triple check the size with every order!

A DIY disaster
I decided to save money by making my child’s costume. I tried the old ghost faithful with an old white sheet. It was a nightmare. And not the good kind you want at Halloween. I cut the sheet incorrectly, so it hung lopsided and my son kept tripping over it. I didn’t know the best way to make holes for his arms so I winged it. The result? He could fit his head through the one arm hole and barely his elbow through the other. And I messed up the holes for his eyes so I tried to do one long slit. This ended up at his chin. So he couldn’t see out of it, couldn’t walk in it and could only get one arm through it. Never again. We both ended up in tears. I made a last-minute dash to the supermarket and bought a very expensive (but cheap quality) ninja outfit. It pays to plan ahead!

A not so funny clown costume
I found my husband a creepy clown costume online. It looked the part and I was delighted that it was very inexpensive. When it arrived, it was the tackiest Halloween outfit we’d ever seen. It was made from flimsy, poor quality fabric that felt like crepe paper. He figured he’d wear it because the site we ordered it from had a no returns policy and we didn’t want to waste more money buying a new one somewhere else. We were invited to a friend’s Halloween party and it was strictly dress-up, so he had little choice anyway. It was too tight to wear anything underneath and within 5 minutes he was scratching and niggling in discomfort. It was also very hot because it wasn’t breathable. By the end of the night, he’d scratched so much that there were red welts on his skin. We binned the costume immediately. It was the most uncomfortable Halloween outfit!
